To make the best use of time, we run a full appointments system with both routine and on the day appointments offered. In the first instance patients are phone triaged by the GP to access their needs and if they are needed to be seen face to face then the GP will directly book.
Please make your request in plenty of time whenever possible. You are welcome to request an appointment to see a specific doctor, but it should be noted that this may involve a little more delay.
Appointments are allocated sufficient time to discuss a single problem with your doctor. If you have more than one problem, please ask the receptionist for a double appointment.
Urgent appointments
You can request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday) during opening times.
We will respond to requests within 2 working hours.

To request a routine appointment in advance during opening times:

- use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) or SystmOne to book an appointment, screening test or vaccination
- use our nurse or healthcare assistant appointment request form and we will respond within 4 working hours

Get help for any health problem
No more waiting on the phone to get a GP appointment! Tell us your problem or question and we’ll get back to you within 2 working hours, online, phone or face to face.
Nurse appointments
See a nurse for blood tests, vaccinations, blood pressure checks, health reviews, ECGs, Warfarin checks, family planning and sexual health advice, ear irrigation, wound management and cervical screening.
Extended access appointments
We are pleased to announce that Somercotes Medical Centre is now part of Amber Valley Health Limited (AVH) along with the following practices: Brooklyn Medical Practice, Crich Medical Practice, Ivy Grove Surgery, Jessop Medical Practice, Kelvingrove Medical Centre, Parkside Surgery, The Park Surgery, and in collaboration with Ripley Medical Centre.
AVH offers extended appointments, late evening and Saturday and Sunday mornings.
These are at the Amber Valley Health GP Hub at Church Farm Primary Care Centre in Ripley, DE5 3TH.
The opening times of the hub are Monday to Friday, 6:15pm to 8pm, Saturdays and Sundays 8:45am to 11:45am.
Please note, the vast majority of AVH GPs and staff members are from one of the local practices named above.
The Amber Valley Health GP Hub is currently open for pre-booked appointments only.

Cancelling or changing an appointment
To cancel your appointment:
- use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
- use the GP online system: SystmOne
- phone us on 01773 602141 during opening times
If you need help when we are closed
If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.
NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.
Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
If you need help with your appointment
Please tell us:
- if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
- if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
- if you need an interpreter
- if you have any other access or communication needs
Home visits
Home visits are only made if your illness prevents you coming to the practice. Please consider that a home visit takes more GP time than an appointment in the surgery, a GP is able to see 3 or 4 patient in surgery in the time it takes to complete one home visit.
If you are likely to need a home visit, please phone the surgery on 01773 602141 as early as possible, preferably before 10am.
